Concrete around a pool in July is genuinely painful to walk on. Travertine stays noticeably cooler, has a naturally textured surface that grips wet feet, and looks considerably better than a broom-finished slab.
The catch is installation. Travertine set badly — on a poor base, with the wrong setting material, or without proper drainage — will lift and spall in a couple of winters. We build the base first and set it properly.

Can travertine go over my existing concrete deck?
If the concrete is sound and drains properly, an overlay is often the fastest, cleanest option. If the slab is cracked or holds water, it needs to come out first — and we will tell you which you have.
Does travertine crack in the cold?
Quality, correctly graded travertine handles York County winters well when it has been set with the right materials and drainage. Failures come from installation and standing water, not the stone.
How much maintenance does it need?
Rinse it, clean spills, and re-seal every few years. Avoid acidic cleaners, which etch natural stone.
What does travertine decking cost compared with concrete?
It costs more per square foot than plain concrete. Most clients decide it is worth it the first time they walk on it barefoot in August.
